  • A. In this chapter, the following terms have the meanings indicated.

    B. Terms Defined.

    (1) "Board" means the Maryland Board of Nursing.

    (2) "Certificate" means a certificate issued by the Board to practice as a certified medication technician in this State.

    (3) Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA).

    (a) "Certified nursing assistant (CNA)" means an individual, regardless of title, who:

    (i) Routinely performs delegated nursing tasks which were delegated by a registered nurse (RN) or licensed practice nurse (LPN) for compensation; and

    (ii) Is certified under COMAR 10.39.01.

    (b) "Certified nursing assistant (CNA)" does not include:

    (i) A medication technician; or

    (ii) An individual who merely provides assistance with activities of daily living unless the client's needs are such that adverse health consequences are predictable.

    (4) "Clinical refresher course" means a course of study approved by the Board to maintain the medication technician's knowledge and skill to administer medication.

    (5) “Licensed practical nurse (LPN)” means an individual who:

    (a) Is licensed by the Board to practice licensed practical nursing; or

    (b) Has a multistate licensure privilege to practice licensed practical nursing.

    (6) "Medication technician (MT)" means an individual who:

    (a) Has successfully completed a Board-approved MT training program;

    (b) Meets any other qualifications set by the Board; and

    (c) Is certified by the Board as a MT.

    (7) "Medication technician training program" means a course of training approved by the Board that meets the basic MT core curriculum and content training specific to the setting in which the MT will work.

    (8) “Multistate licensure privilege” has the meaning set forth in COMAR 10.27.01.01B.

    (9) “Registered nurse (RN)” means an individual who:

    (a) Is licensed by the Board to practice registered nursing; or

    (b) Has a multistate licensure privilege to practice registered nursing.
