Sec. 09.10.01.80. Pick-7 with Carry-Over

Latest version.
  • A. The Pick-7 with Carry-Over pari-mutuel pool is not a parlay and has no connection with or relation to any other pari-mutuel pool.

    B. The Pick-7 with Carry-Over pari-mutuel pool consists of amounts wagered by individuals on the individuals' selections to finish first in each of the seven races designated by an Association, with the approval of the Commission, to be part of the Pick-7 with Carry-Over wager.

    C. Those horses constituting an entry of coupled horses or those horses coupled to constitute the mutuel field in a race comprising the Pick-7 with Carry-Over shall race as a single wagering interest for the purpose of the Pick-7 with Carry-Over pari-mutuel pool calculations and payout to the public. However, if part of an entry or field is scratched and any part of either an entry or field racing as a single wagering interest is a starter in a race, the entry or field, if selected, shall remain as the designated selection to win in that race for the Pick-7 with Carry-Over wager and the selection is not considered a scratch.

    D. If a Pick-7 with Carry-Over pari-mutuel ticket contains a single wagering interest or an entire "entry of coupled horses" or "mutuel field" which is scratched, excused, or determined by the stewards to be a nonstarter in the race, after wagering on the Pick-7 with Carry-Over has begun, the actual favorite, as evidenced by the amounts wagered in the win pool at the time of the start of the race, will be substituted for the nonstarting selection for all purposes, including pool calculations and payoffs. In the unlikely event that the win pool for two or more favorites is identical, the selection is the lowest program number of the cofavorites substituted for the nonstarting selection.

    E. The Pick-7 with Carry-Over pari-mutuel pool shall be calculated as follows:

    (1) The net pool, which consists of the total amount wagered less the applicable takeout, shall be allocated:

    (a) 75 percent to the carry-over share, and

    (b) 25 percent to a best-of-seven share;

    (2) The carry-over share shall be distributed among holders of Pick-7 with Carry-Over tickets which contain the correct selections of the winner of each of the seven races comprising the Pick-7 with Carry-Over;

    (3) The best-of-seven share shall be distributed among holders of Pick-7 with Carry-Over tickets which contain the most correct selections of the winner of each of the seven races comprising the Pick-7 with Carry-Over but fewer than seven;

    (4) If there is no pari-mutuel ticket issued which correctly selects the winners of each of the seven races comprising the Pick-7 with Carry-Over, then the carry-over share from this day shall be added to the carry-over share of the next program to offer this type of wager at a track licensed under Business Regulation Article, §11-302, Annotated Code of Maryland;

    (5) If a succeeding track does not offer this type of wager or if a track wishes to discontinue this type of wager or create a mandatory distribution of the carry-over share, upon the approval of the Commission, the carry-over share on the program so designated shall be distributed among holders of Pick-7 with Carry-Over tickets which contain the most correct selections of the winner of each of the seven races comprising the Pick-7 with Carry-Over on that program.

    F. If there is a dead heat for win between two or more horses in any Pick-7 with Carry-Over race, all the horses in the dead heat for win are considered as the winning horse in the race for the purpose of calculating the Pick-7 with Carry-Over pari-mutuel pool.

    G. If, for any reason, any race or races of a Pick-7 with Carry-Over is cancelled and declared "No Race", the entire Pick-7 with Carry-Over net pool, exclusive of amounts added from prior programs, shall be distributed to the holders of the most winning selections of the remaining races pursuant to §E(3) of this regulation. If, for any reason, three or more races of a Pick-7 with Carry-Over are cancelled and declared "No Race", all pari-mutuel tickets for that Pick-7 with Carry-Over pool shall be refunded and the Pick-7 with Carry-Over cancelled for that day.

    H. A pari-mutuel ticket for the Pick-7 with Carry-Over pool may not be sold, exchanged, or cancelled after the time of the closing of wagering on the first of the seven races comprising the Pick-7 with Carry-Over, except for those refunds on Pick-7 with Carry-Over tickets required by this regulation.

    I. Repealed.

    J. Races upon which the Pick-7 with Carry-Over are conducted shall be approved by the Maryland Racing Commission and clearly designated in the program.

    K. This rule shall be prominently displayed throughout the betting area of the association conducting this type of wager.
