Sec. 09.10.01.53. Farrier

A. A farrier may not shoe horses at a race track under the jurisdiction of the Commission until the farrier has obtained a license from the Commission.
B. An applicant shall satisfy all of the following requirements before obtaining a farrier's license:
(1) The applicant shall be endorsed by three trainers licensed in Maryland and shall have had a minimum of 2 years experience.
(2) An examination shall be conducted to demonstrate an applicant's ability to plate a race horse or pony. The examination shall be observed by a representative of the organization which represents the majority of the horsemen, a farrier licensed in Maryland, and a Maryland Racing Commission veterinarian.
(3) The examiners shall report to the stewards on the applicant's ability to shoe a horse.
