Sec. 09.01.08.01. Definitions

A. In this chapter, the following terms have the meanings indicated.
B. Terms Defined.
(1) Currency.
(a) "Currency" means currency and coin of the United States or any other country including United States silver certificates, United States notes, and Federal Reserve notes.
(b) "Currency" does not include bank checks, traveler's checks, bank drafts, wire transfers, money orders, or other negotiable or monetary instruments not customarily accepted as money.
(2) "Department" means the Maryland Department of Labor.
(3) "Person engaged in a trade or business" means an individual, partnership, firm, trust, estate, association, corporation, or other entity:
(a) Engaged in vehicle sales, including motor vehicle, airplane, and boat sales;
(b) That conducts real estate closings and settlements; or
(c) Engaged in the sale or pledging of jewelry.
(4) "Receives" means acquires, takes possession of, or transfers.
(5) "Secretary" means the Secretary of Labor.
