Sec. 08.03.09.04. Importation and Possession of Wildlife

  • A. A person or corporation shall obtain a permit from the Service before he may import or possess any live wildlife for release into the wild.

    B. The Service shall grant a permit only on satisfactory proof that the specific wildlife intended to be imported will:

    (1) Be free of any communicable disease at the time of their importation; and

    (2) Not be inimical to the native flora and fauna.

    C. Application for the permit shall be filed with the Service not less than 60 days before the proposed date of importation.

    D. The provisions of this regulation do not apply to the importation of wildlife for:

    (1) Use in laboratories;

    (2) Use in exhibitions;

    (3) Other uses which require that the wildlife is held in captivity; or

    (4) Use in field trials or for training hunting dogs, except furbearing mammals.
